August 30, 2010 by Publius

The National Journal questions whether RNC Chairman Michael Steele's trip to the outlying U.S. territories is more about his own re-election bid in January than the 2010 midterm elections.

CNN offers the same analysis here.

When Steele is "Special Guest" at Fundraisers, Reporters Aren't

August 25, 2010 by Publius

Looks like Michael Steele is trying to put an end to his political gaffes by excluding reporters from his events. I'm not sure that was the solution we were hoping for.

Steele Already Targeted for Blame Should GOP Stumble in 2010

August 25, 2010 by Publius

The author of this post seems somewhat surprised that RNC Chairman Michael Steele is going to take the fall if Republicans don't score major wins in November.

I'm not sure how Steele doesn't get blamed. After surprising upsets in Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, Steele was quite to claim responsibility. It seems only fair, that if the RNC fails in November, that he will take the fall, given his lackluster fundraising at the RNC, and the amount of money he expended to score those early victories.

Steele Distances GOP from Arizona Immigration Law

August 24, 2010 by Publius

And here we go again. There were reports earlier this summer that RNC Chairman Michael Steele met with a group interested in passing comprehensive immigration reform, and some suggested that he even promised GOP support. Now he is backing away from Arizona's immigration law, which really isn't much of a law, but an enforcement policy of a law already on the books.

Steele Seeks Sestak Probe

August 19, 2010 by Publius

RNC Chairman Michael Steele is calling on Attorney General Eric Holder to open an investigation into claims that the White House offered a job to Congressman Joe Sestak (D-PA) in exchange for dropping out of the Senate race earlier this year.

If you ask me, this sounds an awful lot like the situation in Illinois, where Governor Rod Blagojevich tried to trade Barack Obama's Senate seat for a political appointment.
