I don't believe there is a "nationwide anti-Muslim campaign." There's certainly no anti-Muslim sentiment here at RNCC, nor have I seen any in the GOP and tea party movement, though we all do strongly oppose militant Islamists, terrorism, and any efforts to diminish American liberty, security, and human rights.
If the president had been looking for a teachable Ramadan moment, he could have said something like this: "To our Muslim friends and fellow citizens, I have both greeting and caution: Our religious traditions are different from yours, but we each owe respect to the other.
